The Milwaukee Bucks will be without Giannis Antetokounmpo temporarily, as the superstar has been diagnosed with a knee sprain.

The Milwaukee Bucks obviously don’t want Giannis Antetokounmpo to be hurt at all, but to say they dodged a bullet would be an understatement.

After suffering a left leg injury during Friday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Bucks — and their fans — sat on pins and needles awaiting the release of the status of their star. Any news of a serious injury would’ve all but ruined Milwaukee’s title chances.

Luckily for the Bucks, things appear to be relatively fine. In a statement issued by the team on Saturday, the NBA world now knows the fate of Antetokounmpo. He has been diagnosed with a sprain in his knee and is slated to miss at least the next two games:

Milwaukee currently boasts the league’s best record, and that’s largely a result of the amazing play of Antetokounmpo. The NBA’s leading MVP candidate is currently averaging 29.6 points, 13.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game while playing elite defense.

The Bucks’ depth will get tested while they’re without their leader. Khris Middleton has had an uber-efficient season and will be tasked with leading the offense until Antetokounmpo returns. Eric Bledsoe and Brook Lopez will also have to pick up some slack.

Things could have been a lot worse here. Antetokounmpo is one of the best players in the league and at 25 years old, he has plenty left to offer. That starts with a potential playoff run next month. he should be 100 percent healthy by then, and his Bucks should be back in business.

This is just a minor bump in the road along the path to hopeful success for the Bucks. They can all exhale.
