2020 NBA Mock Draft, 1.0: LaMelo Ball gives the Warriors a boost

This is a bit of a gamble on fit with Trae Young already manning point in Atlanta but look no further than the Oklahoma City Thunder this season to find a unit having success with multiple creators. Hayes is listed at 6-foot-6 with a 6-foot-8 wingspan, and projects as a better outside shooter than his current numbers with Ulm would indicate. He is not the best athlete and there would be questions about how Atlanta deploys him with one or both of Young and Kevin Huerter.
Hayes would give Atlanta another creator to help run the floor when Young needs a blow, and should mesh well enough to share the floor with the star guard as well. Hayes projects to defend at two positions with his size and length and potentially even bigger wings as well if he adds weight and strength. His shooting hasn’t been great so far, but hovering in the mid 80s at the free throw line the past couple years is encouraging. The 18-year old is far from done rounding out his game and seems to possess the unselfish nature required to play next to a high-usage star guard like Young.
