If the Kansas City Chiefs use the last pick of the first round on Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins, they will have unlocked yet another NFL cheat code.

If Ohio State Buckeyes running back J.K. Dobbins ends up on the Kansas City Chiefs, goodnight.

Because they won the Super Bowl, the Chiefs will have the No. 32 overall pick in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. Though there are holes to fill on the roster, Kansas City is in prime position to add another toy to an already impressive offensive arsenal just for the hell of it. No, they don’t need Dobbins in the backfield, but can you even imagine what happens if they do end up drafting him?

FanSided‘s Matt Verderame reported at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis that Dobbins met with the Chiefs. While Dobbins wasn’t viewed as a likely first-round running back like Georgia’s D’Andre Swift or Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor were before the combine, it would not be shocking to see the Chiefs get themselves another explosive playmaker to put in their backfield.

Dobbins rushed for over 1,000 yards during his three years in Columbus. He was a huge part of the Buckeyes’ team that won the Big 12 and reached the College Football Playoff in school history as a junior. Last fall saw Dobbins rush for over 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns. No doubt NFL teams would love to have a guy like this in their running back room.

Dobbins’ productivity in college could be the spark the Chiefs need in the backfield after parting ways with Kareem Hunt a few years ago. Damien Williams is fine, and performed well down the stretch for the Chiefs during their Super Bowl run, but Dobbins has the talent to be a perennial Pro Bowlers in this league. While he could bust, this feels like a safe pick for Kansas City in round one.

With 71 career catches out of the backfield, Dobbins might be able to take a few Patrick Mahomes screen passes to the house. If the Chiefs offense became more multi-faceted and not as reliant on the passing game, Kansas City would be an overwhelming favorite to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

Dobbins may not be as fast as Tyreek Hill, but this former Buckeye can burn defensive players with the best of them. While he would be considered a luxury item taken late in the first round, Kansas City is in position to find itself with another dynamic offensive weapon.

Let’s not forget, by taking him No. 32 overall, they’d have the fifth-year option to work with, too.
