26th Overall: Miami Dolphins – Jonathan Taylor (RB – Miami)

Team Needs
Quarterback, Offensive Line, Running Back, Safety, Wide Receiver, Edge Rusher,

Picks: 5 (1st), 18 (1st), 26 (1st), 39 (2nd), 56 (2nd), 70 (3rd), 105 (3rd), 154 (5th), 163 (5th), 174 (5th), 179 (5th), 197 (6th), 228 (7th), 247 (7th)

Jonathan Taylor will become an instant workhorse in Miami. It is entirely plausible that the Dolphins add a second runner on day three, but there does not project to be any running backs would pose a serious threat to Taylor’s workload still available in round four or beyond. Taylor has an every down skill set, and will be one of the rare 90 percent snap rate running backs. The Dolphins have plenty of needs to address, but get a steal here on a running back that would be in the top 10 mix in weaker draft classes. D’Andre Swift, and possibly J.K. Dobbins will be considered here, but Taylor likely passed both in Brian Flores’ eyes with his standout performance at the 2020 NFL Combine.

Team Impact

The Miami Dolphins have done a deplorable job at recognizing talent in recent years, but have hit homeruns on each of their first round selections in this mock. No team should be allowed to walk away from a draft with talents like Tua Tagovailoa, Jerry Jeudy, and Jonathan Taylor, and not have to trade up to land them. Arguably the top talents at each of their positions, these additions will give the Dolphins the most talented collection of skill talent in the AFC East. With four day two picks at their disposal, the Dolphins will go ‘all in’ in addressing their defensive holes in the second and third rounds.

Fantasy Impact

The Dolphins don’t sound like an ideal landing spot for any skill player, but with the additions mocked here, they suddenly become one. Miami has too many holes to name, but with the picks mocked here have succeeded in revamping their offense in just one day. Taylor will be an immediate RB2 with RB1 upside in redraft leagues. He will likely see close to 300 touches as a rookie, and should not cede many snaps to his backups. The fumbling issues he displayed in college could land him in the doghouse, but he will be drafted to be an instant workhorse. In dynasty leagues Taylor becomes an immediate top 10 asset at running back, who should be the first player off the board in single QB dynasty rookie drafts.
