2020 NFL Mock Draft
ATLANTA, GA – DECEMBER 28: K’Lavon Chaisson #18 of the LSU Tigers celebrates following LSU Tigers win over the Oklahoma Sooners in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on December 28, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Carmen Mandato/Getty Images) /

32nd overall: Kansas City Chiefs – K’Lavon Chaisson (Edge – LSU)

Team Needs
Edge Rusher, Cornerback, Wide Receiver, Offensive Line, Running Back, Linebacker

Picks: 32 (1st), 63 (2nd), 96 (3rd), 138 (4th), 146 (4th), 178 (5th)

The rich get richer. The Kansas City Chiefs need to address what could be a massive hole at cornerback, but they also have a significant need on the edge. Pairing K’Lavon Chaisson with Frank Clark would give the Chiefs one of the best edge rushing duos in football, and would allow Chris Jones to play defensive tackle where he has repeatedly proved to be more valuable. Kansas City can address the corner position and running back position with their two day two picks. It is very likely that they will spend one of their fourth round picks drafting one of the talented wide receivers that are destined to slip to day three. Chaisson is the best player available, and is an absolute steal for the Chiefs.

Team Impact

While the Chiefs added the best player available here, edge may indeed be their biggest need after free agency wraps up. Kendall Fuller and Bashaud Breeland are free agents, but the Chiefs will likely retain one if not both. Terrell Suggs and Emmanuel Ogbah are both free agents, and are likely to look for bigger payday’s elsewhere after winning the Super Bowl. Chaisson is a talented edge rusher that can play 4-3 defensive end, or as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. He will be able to thrive playing left end, and should be a consistent pressure creator when rushing the quarterback.

Fantasy Impact

Chaisson will be no better than a DE3 to open the season in redraft leagues, but he has legitimate DE2 upside as a rookie. He has the talent to cause havoc as a rookie. He will benefit from the disruptors on the other side of the defensive line as he should rarely, if ever see double teams. In dynasty he has potential LB1 upside, but should be viewed more as an DE2 with DE1 upside in softer matchups. He is someone to target in the mid to late fourth round of IDP heavy leagues.
