3 NFL teams who could have interest in Xavier Rhodes
Xavier Rhodes has been cut by the Minnesota Vikings, and these three teams should be ready to take a look at him.
It’s worth wondering why it took so long, but they’ve done it. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Minnesota Vikings have released cornerback Xavier Rhodes. The move clears $8.1 million in much-needed cap space, while leaving a $4.8 dead money hit.
After being one of Minnesota’s three first-round picks, Rhodes developed into a top-tier cornerback. But his level of play has fallen off a cliff over the last two seasons, after his five-year, $70.1 contract kicked in. Last season he allowed an astronomical 81.5 percent completion rate when targeted, and opposing quarterbacks posted a 123.8 passer rating when throwing in his direction.
Rhodes will turn 30 in June, so he may have some solid years left in the right situation. But the Vikings could not keep him at this 2020 salary, and a contract restructure can’t make how bad he was in 2019 look better.
That being said, these three teams should have some interest in Rhodes now that he is freely available.
