Byron Jones rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency

4. New York Giants
Going to a division rival via trade is relatively unheard of in the NFL. In free agency, though, anything goes.
The opportunity for Jones to get a fresh start and receive two shots at the Cowboys every year may be a selling point in and of itself. While the lowly Giants haven’t had any success as a franchise recently, they have an up-and-coming quarterback in Daniel Jones and a ton of cap space to work with.
Cornerback could be the most pressing need the Giants have this offseason. There are quite a few, but acquiring a player of Jones’ caliber would go a long way towards resetting both the culture and the on-field product.
Jones also has ties to former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett. Depending on their relationship, it could add a little sweetener to New York’s pitch should they make one. Garrett is now serving as the offensive coordinator for the Giants and knows Jones quite well.
There’s a long list of holes to fill for this team. Both sides of the ball need a whole lot of talent injected into them before New York is anywhere near ready to contend. Still, signing Jones to a long-term contract through his prime would be a step in the right direction for a regime that desperately needs some positive momentum.
