Byron Jones rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
By Jordan Foote
3. Indianapolis Colts
The Colts shocked many with their ability to stay afloat and play a good brand of football early in the 2019 season. Despite losing star quarterback Andrew Luck and handing the keys to Jacoby Brissett, Indy finished with a 7-9 record.
Indianapolis’ secondary wasn’t terrible last season, but it was far from good. The team surrendered the 10th-most yards per game through the air and was a middling unit as a whole. Adding some star talent — ala Byron Jones — would be a major plus.
The cap situation is also terrific. The Colts rank among the best in the league when it comes to funds available for free agency, which makes money one of the easiest parts of the equation to figure out. Jones’ contract would easily fit under the cap and still allow the franchise to continue building elsewhere.
Frank Reich’s squad isn’t far away from being a playoff-caliber bunch. If it can add a star on both sides of the ball and figure out what to do at quarterback, this could be a sleeper contender. Indianapolis is fundamentally sound and although it may be a boring team to watch, it possesses a high floor. Jones would raise the ceiling without a doubt.
