Byron Jones rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
By Jordan Foote
1. Philadelphia Eagles
If Jones wants to join a division rival and have a chance to win big immediately, the Eagles would be a no-brainer.
While the team doesn’t have a ton of cap space to work with, it has enough to make a serious run at Jones. Some of the core from the Super Bowl-winning team of a few years ago is still there and with both head coach Doug Pederson and quarterback Carson Wentz in place, the potential is undeniable.
Where Philly could use an upgrade is in the secondary. It simply couldn’t hold up last season against pretty much every team it faced. Jones would step in and be a star for the defense from day one. The back end of the defense is easily the weak link of the unit and with Ronald Darby set to hit free agency, replacing him with Jones would be more than a solid consolation prize.
Two games vs. Dallas. One of the best head coach-quarterback duos in the league to take some pressure off the defense. A stout front seven. Joining the Eagles makes a ton of sense for Jones as a suitable fit, but it’ll all come down to how the financials play out.
