Allen Robinson is coming off his second 1,000-yard receiving season of his NFL career. Is he worthy of being your WR1 in 2020 fantasy football?

If there is any wide receiver in football who deserves better quarterback play, it’s Allen Robinson of the Chicago Bears. From his time in college at Penn State, to his years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, to his current team in Chicago, Robinson has had to catch passes from one mediocre quarterback after another. However, he still find ways to be a productive pass-catcher.

For the second time in his NFL career, Robinson went over 1,000 receiving yards with the 2019 Bears. He is trending up after tearing his ACL in 2017 and then moving to a new team in 2018. The Fantasy Footballers were asked if Robinson could be your fantasy football team’s WR1 if you went RB1 and RB2 with your first two fantasy selections. Here’s what they had to say about that.

Though Jason Moore likes Robinson, no, he does not think it is in your best interest as a fantasy football player to take him as your third-round pick in the upcoming 2020 season. The reasons Moore cited against doing so make a lot of sense. It is mostly about bad quarterback play out of Mitchell Trubisky, as well as Robinson’s injury concerns since his final days in Jacksonville.

While doubling-down on running backs with your first two fantasy selections typically bodes well for you, it is a bit of a reach to take Robinson as your best fantasy wide receiver. He’d be an excellent WR2 on many fantasy championship teams. So if you’re going with Robinson as your WR1, then you are biting the bullet with that position group and won’t win next year because of it.

Keep in mind how wide receivers have become more valuable in fantasy leagues due to the PPR format’s increased popularity. While he had a career-high 98 catches in 2019, Robinson’s next-best total came in his breakout year with the 2015 Jaguars with 80. He has never been above 75 catches in his other four NFL seasons. There are better possession receivers out there to be had.

Though Robinson could have a great fantasy season in 2020, he’s not worth overdrafting in the third round just because you think he can be your No. 1 wide receiver. If Robinson is your WR2 in fantasy next year, you can probably win a championship with him on your roster. If he’s your WR1, you better have the two best running backs in your league and you should dominate that way.
