4. Houdini TD vs. 49ers

The original is oftentimes better than the spinoff or, in this case, the second coming. This play by Patrick Mahomes may remind you of the one from the last slide and you’d be right: they’re pretty similar.

This was the touchdown that put Mahomes on plenty of radars. The Chiefs had only played two games in the 2018 season and the jury was still out on their talented young quarterback. Most coaches will discourage their players from running away from the majority of the play but for Mahomes, it allowed him to create just enough space to set the internet on fire.

By the time he got to the right side of the field, Mahomes’ blockers had done a terrific job creating a throwing lane and running room for him. As he scrambled and bought a bit of time, Chris Conley became open in the back corner of the end zone.

Mahomes saw the narrow window and threw the ball into it, leaving the 49ers and future Hall of Famer Richard Sherman dazed and confused. Little did they know they were playing against the eventual league MVP.
