3. 4th and 9 pass vs. Ravens

Late in the 2018 season, the Kansas City Chiefs were battling for playoff seeding. With a 10-2 record, they were in a good position but couldn’t afford to drop a game to the scrappy Baltimore Ravens and youngster Lamar Jackson.

Andy Reid showed some supreme confidence in his quarterback by allowing him to go for it on 4th-and-9 from his own 40-yard line. There was still a minute-and-a-half left on the clock and Kansas City had all three of its timeouts left. With their backs up against the wall, Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill delivered.

With two defenders chasing after him and as he was running out of space to run, Mahomes launched a ball across the field to Hill. The play couldn’t have been drawn up that way. It was all improvisation from Mahomes and some excellent route running by Hill.

Hill proceeded to gain additional yardage and set up the game-tying touchdown but tweaked his hamstring in the process. Nevertheless, it’ll go down as one of the best receptions of his career — and one of the craziest Mahomes throws we’ll ever see.
