2. Sign Teddy Bridgewater

Signing the best quarterback remaining on the market might seem like too simple of an option for Belichick to choose. If he does go that route, Bridgewater will be plying his trade in Foxborough next season.

Bridgewater would give Belichick a very different option at quarterback than what he’s enjoyed with Brady. His mobility could really give the Patriots’ offense an extra dimension. Bridgewater also has the accuracy in the pocket that made Brady so effective in New England.

The only thing the former Saints’ star will cost the Patriots is money. Brady’s departure leaves the Patriots with plenty of that. A three or four-year contract paying Bridgewater just north of $20 million per season should be enough to get a deal done.

That sort of financial commitment will require Belichick to really believe Bridgewater is capable of being his starter of the present and future. If Belichick does buy into that notion, he could strike a deal with Bridgewater’s representatives very quickly. If not, don’t look for New England officials to engage him in any meaningful discussions.
