Manchester United have finally dropped their asking price for Paul Pogba. That makes it the perfect time for Real Madrid to swoop for the midfield dynamo.

It’s fair to say that Paul Pogba hasn’t lit the Premier League ablaze during his time at Manchester United. That doesn’t mean a move to Real Madrid wouldn’t pay off handsomely for Zinedine Zidane and Los Blancos.

It’s been no secret that Zidane has wanted Pogba since the boss returned to the Bernabeu, and news that United have finally gotten somewhat realistic in terms of their transfer demands for Pogba should cause Real Madrid to come forward with a concrete offer for the French midfielder. United officials are now willing to accept £100 million for Pogba this summer. That’s still a hefty transfer fee, but it’s well within Real Madrid’s price range.

The Spanish side’s top priority must be revamping their midfield this summer. Both Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are starting to see their play decline due to age related regression. Casemiro is a solid defensive presence in the middle of the pitch, but he lacks creative flair moving forward. That leaves Zidane’s squad with a real need for a midfielder who can impact the game at both ends of the pitch.

The idea of starting a midfield three of Pogba, Casemiro and Federico Valverde should have a strong appeal for Real Madrid officials. The young Uruguayan burst onto the scene during the middle of the season and is clearly going to be a regular member of the club’s starting XI next season. He can replace either Kroos or Modric, but not both. Adding Pogba would give Zidane a midfield three capable of winning major trophies on all fronts.

Don’t forget that the best performances of Pogba’s career came when he was given the freedom to play on the perimeter of a midfield three. Some of his performances at Juventus in that position were absolutely dominating. Pogba is a player that thrives when he’s given the freedom to roam the pitch without being overly concerned about defensive responsibilities. Partnering him with Casemiro and Valverde would give him the perfect platform to dominate the opposition.

The only real question Madrid need to consider is whether or not they can beat out the competition for Pogba. Juventus are quite interested in bringing the Frenchman back to Serie A. United’s recent decision to slash their asking price by £80 million could bring other clubs into the mix as well.

That’s why Real Madrid need to move swiftly and decisively to get a deal done. It’s time for the La Liga giants to step up and pay the massive fee required to sign the world-class midfielder. Real Madrid are out of excuses when it comes to signing Pogba.
