Las Vegas Raiders sign Nelson Agholor: Grades, reaction and more

The Las Vegas Raiders have signed former Philadelphia Eagles receiver Nelson Agholor to a one-year deal as he looks to resurrect his career.

The Las Vegas Raiders have been busy during the opening days of NFL free agency with five signings on defense and a pair of signings on offense on Saturday. In addition to signing offensive lineman Erik Kush, the Raiders signed former Philadelphia Eagles receiver Nelson Agholor with the hope he can resurrect his stalled career.

The former first-round pick out of USC has been plagued with drops during his five-year career in Philadelphia and is coming off his worst season as a pro.

Agholor hauled in 224 passes for 2,515 yards with the Eagles but they were more than open to letting him explore his options in free agency after only having 39 catches for 363 yards and a career-worst 9.3 yards per catch in 11 games in 2019.

Contract Details

The news of Agholor signing with the Raiders was first reported by Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune. And ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report it was on a one-year deal. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

National Reaction

The reaction to the signing by the Raiders was met with much comedy from the NFL world.

The Raiders aren’t one player away from winning the Super Bowl or even competing for a playoff spot so adding Agholor isn’t a make-of-break signing. He’s shown an ability to get open during his career, but a change of scenery and catching passes from Derek Carr, or whoever is the team’s starting quarterback, could do him good.

It’s hard to bank on him immediately becoming a sure-handed receiver no matter who is throwing him the ball, however. It’s a solid signing to provide depth and another option in the deep passing game, but Agholor isn’t going to magically transform into a Pro Bowl receiver or live up to his former first round billing.
