The Cowboys spent a small fortune to strengthen their roster in free agency. Who will Jerry Jones turn to in Round 1 of the NFL Draft?

No one can accuse Jerry Jones of being cheap this offseason. He and the Cowboys front office have spent a lot of money preparing the team for a Super Bowl run next season. The franchise still needs to add an impact player with their first round draft choice if they want to maximize their chances of taking home the Lombardi Trophy.

Spending big dollars to retain stars like Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper is helpful, but it’s key to remember that neither of those moves will strengthen Dallas’ roster next year. Re-signing both free agents was just the cost of doing business and maintaining the status quo for the Cowboys.

The key additions in free agency for Dallas are much more modest. Gerald McCoy is coming off a really disappointing year in Carolina. It’s unclear just how much he can help the Cowboys upfront.

Haha Clinton-Dix is a decent safety but signing him won’t prevent the Cowboys from using their No. 17 selection on an upgrade at safety.

Dallas has to get things right with their first round pick to really ace their offseason. Here are the five players the franchise is most likely to select.

5. CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma receiver

Keeping Cooper in the fold gives the Cowboys a bona fide No. 1 wideout they can rely on. That doesn’t mean their work is done at receiver. If Lamb is still on the board at No. 16 he’s going to serve as a massive temptation for the franchise. Lining him up on the other side of the formation from Cooper would allow the team to kick Michael Gallup inside to the slot. It would also give Dallas one of the best receiving corps’ in the NFL. Wide receiver isn’t necessarily a need for the Cowboys, but Lamb’s talent would be too much to pass up.
