Ohio State. Damon Arnette. player. 812. CB. 50. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

The other major weakness in the Bears roster is cornerback. They were forced to cut starter Prince Amukamara due to cap reasons. The problem is they didn’t have anyone in the room to replace him. Right now, Buster Skrine and Kyle Fuller are nice depth pieces that will hold things down, but they still need much more help.

Damon Arnette is not the prospect we like for the Chicago Bears, but we’re worried this is the one they are going to get stuck with. We think the Bears would do much better with Cameron Dantzler or Noah Igbinoghene but we see them going before the Bears pick, and they end up having to take Arnette.

Jeff Okudah is the cornerback everyone will talk about out of Ohio State, but his teammate is an option for the Bears. He was trying to come out in the draft last season, but he stayed in school and extended his draft stock. Arnette was not ready for the NFL last year, and he needed to mature both on and off the field.

Now, he’s in a much better spot to make it to the NFL. The extra year in college clearly helped him focus on fixing his flaws, as the inconsistency of 2018 Damon Arnette was not his problem in 2019. Arnette was dealing with a broken wrist, but at the end of the season when Ohio State’s schedule became insane, he was at his best. He deflected passes against Penn State, Michigan, Clemson and Wisconsin, all top-15 teams.

There’s a lot to like about Arnette’s potential, and now that he’s focused he could be really good. The Bears are going to have to settle for him, but it could be much worse. As long as they put him in a position to succeed, he could become serviceable immediately.
