Drafting Hamler isn’t going to cause any Vikings fans to forget about losing Diggs, but he would give Minnesota another speedster to use against stingy defenses next season.

The question about Hamler is whether he can play with enough force to really emerge as an above average starter at the next level. There are no concerns about his speed. He has the foot speed to run away from defenders in space. Perhaps more importantly, he’s got enough wiggle to make quality tacklers swing and miss in tight spaces.

Zimmer may not be an offensive minded coach, but he understands the importance of having a receiver who can stretch the field. He needs a player like Hamler to make sure that Adam Thielen isn’t the sole focus of opposing defenses next year.

The Vikings could choose to go with a bigger wideout in Round 1 and still draft a new starter in the slot later in the draft. Doubling down on the offense’s biggest weakness would be a clever strategy.
