Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles fans can always count on Howie Roseman to make a couple of genius moves in free agency. One of the best general managers in the business, Roseman knew the Eagles needed an actual superstar cornerback on the roster.

So he went out and got his team Darius Slay, who has been one of the top cover corners in football over the years. He is a massive upgrade at any price, but the Eagles deserve special praise for how cheaply they acquired him.

The Eagles only gave up a third and fifth-round pick for one of the NFL’s premier cornerbacks, and a three-year deal worth $50 million is an affordable deal for a superstar corner. Slay allows the Eagles to shop spare part Rasul Douglas for a late-round pick.

Although the Eagles lost Malcom Jenkins to the New Orleans Saints, the safety’s best days are behind him, and Philly needed to save the money. Rodney McLeod will remain, however, and he is one of the most underrated players at the position. If Jalen Mills can make a successful transition to safety, the Eagles defensive backfield can only get better with Slay in the fold.

Philly also signed defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, who joins one of the most talented defensive fronts in the NFL. Hargrave was overshadowed by bigger stars in Pittsburgh, but he is an excellent defensive tackle who will be a much stronger anchor than Timmy Jernigan.
