Alabama football head coach Nick Saban released a public service announcement about the importance of social distancing and listening to the medical experts during the coronavirus pandemic.

Saban joins LSU’s Ed Orgeron, Ohio State’s Ryan Day and Texas’ Tom Herman, among other coaches who have recorded a similar PSA about the dangers and safety measures people can take to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"“On behalf of our program, we want to give thanks to all the medical professionals and caregivers in our state and across the country in these challenging times. Our daily routines have changed dramatically over these past weeks. Our staff is back to work but we are working from home and obeying all social distancing guidelines. For Alabama football, the safety of our players and staff is what’s most important. We are not having organized team activities of any kind. But we are continuing to communicate and support our players while doing everything in our power to ensure their health, safety and wellness. As we said to our team, we share the same message with all of you. Please understand the guidelines of social distancing, it’s important. We ask everyone to wash their hands often, Stay at home if at all possible. And when you have to be out in public, make sure you keep six feet between you and the nearest person. We are in this together and as one team we will get through these difficult times. And together we look forward to all that’s to come like the opportunity to play college football this fall but the best and safety way to ensure that happening is listen to the experts, follow their guidelines and take care of each other.Stay safe and Roll Tide.”"

Alabama spring practice and the spring game were canceled but Saban says the coaches are back to work, albeit from their homes as they get ready for the 2020 season. But as Saban cautions, if people do not obey the safety guidelines from the CDC and don’t obey the social distancing when out in public, the risk of the season being postponed is real.

So for all the Alabama football fans who are looking forward to the season, listen to the medical experts and what they are saying about washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, and doing so often. If you don’t have to go to work, keep your distance.

And, if for whatever reason, you don’t want to listen to the medical experts, at least listen to Saban.
