Someone made throwback NBA jerseys in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and they’re absolutely incredible.

If you’re looking for distraction during these days of quarantine, shelter-in-place and social distancing, the new game Animal Crossing: New Horizons is probably already on your radar. If you’re also an NBA fan with tastes that bend towards the esoteric, chances are you’re surfing NBA reddit as well. Now, an enterprising young digital artist has brought those two worlds together, with a series of NBA jerseys designed in the game’s pixel editor.

The original post explains a bit more about the process and impetus: “I hand(joystick?)-painted these using the in-game “PRO Editor” tool. It’s fun taking a jersey and trying to replicate the image with a very small amount of pixels to work with. It’s pretty therapeutic, requires some trial-and-error, and scratches my creative itch.”

In all, the post contains 15 jerseys, front and back, with a mix of throwback, modern and City Edition jerseys and for both modern and historic players. (I’m a big fan of the Orlando Magic, Penny Hardaway throwback. It’s obvious there are some digital limitations because of the pixel size but this is still an incredible effort. Following the comment thread, it sounds like QR codes might be coming so that these are easier to share in the game.

No word yet on whether the artist will be adding more or taking requests at some point.
