NFL Free Agency 2021: 5 best players who could hit the open market
2. George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers tight end
Based on talent alone, there’s a solid argument to be made that George Kittle should be No. 1 on this list. The only reason he slips to the second spot is the position isn’t the most valued.
It’s evident Kittle is the best player in football at his position. The numbers he’s able to put up with a relatively average quarterback are nothing short of remarkable. His combination of size and speed makes him a match-up nightmare for any defender charged with the task of covering him one-on-one.
Admittedly, the chances of him leaving the Bay Area are remote. At worst, the 49ers could easily justify keeping him with the franchise tag due to the relatively low salary of other tight ends around the league.
The franchise shouldn’t rely on that though. It’s in their best interest to give Kittle a long-term deal that blows away Austin Hooper‘s contract from this offseason. That’s the best way to keep their best receiver happy and productive for years to come.
