3. DE Jadeveon Clowney

He’s more of a total defender than just an edge rusher. And perhaps teams are looking for a player who can get them 10 or more sacks and a defender who specializes in the kind of impact plays that create turnovers.

Of course, perhaps the real reason Jadeveon Clowney isn’t in demand is because of his own demands. ESPN’s Dianna Russini has sources suggesting the six-year pro is looking for $20 million per year.

A look at the career of the first pick in the 2014 NFL Draft shows how the physical specimen has certainly made progress since the early stages of his career. He missed 12 games during his rookie campaign with the Houston Texans and finished that year with seven tackles and zero sacks. Over the next four years, he would earn three Pro Bowl invitations thanks to a combined 29 QB traps, four forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries – two of those returned for scores. And he missed only six contests over that span.

In his first season in the Pacific Northwest, Clowney played in 13 games and made 11 starts. It added up to 31 tackles and just three quarterback traps. But he knocked down three passes, forced four fumbles and returned both an interception and a fumble for a score.

To his credit, he’s a very solid defender when it comes to the run. But it will also be interesting to see where he winds up and what his contract turns out to be.
