The critically acclaimed FX series, Fargo, was slated to premiere this April. Does that premiere date still stand?

FX’s dark comedy crime-drama, Fargo, is getting ready to enter season 4. It’s been nearly three years since the third season finale aired in June 2017 and the fourth season was originally scheduled to premiere on Sunday, April 19, 2020.

Unfortunately, like numerous other television shows and movies, the premiere has been delayed due to the global novel coronavirus pandemic.

FX suspended production on all of their shows, so shows like Snowfall and Atlanta are also on hold from the network. This does not come as a surprise since nearly every television show and movie is postponed due to the pandemic.

Fargo‘s distributor, MGM, made one of the first coronavirus related delays when it moved the upcoming James Bond film No Time to Die from an April to November release.

Fargo production delayed due to coronavirus

While eight of the ten episodes for season 4 of Fargo have been filmed, the season 4 premiere has been delayed indefinitely.

FX made this announcement in an official statement:

"Due to the postponement of production related to the coronavirus, the fourth installment of FX’s award-winning limited series ‘Fargo’ will no longer premiere on Sunday, April 19th. A new premiere date will be determined once production resumes."

Since production was halted the week of March 8 and there were still two more episodes to film, without a return date, Fargo also looks likely to miss the May 31 window for this year’s Primetime Emmy Award eligibility. To qualify, most episodes would have to be aired prior to the May 31 deadline.

The anthology limited series, inspired by the 1996 film of the same name, made headlines when it was announced that Chris Rock will join the cast for season 4. Entertainment Weekly explained that the new season focuses on, “rival mob families in 1950s Kansas City” and Variety describes it as, “a story of immigration and assimilation and the things we do for money.”

Rock builds more excitement for season 4 when he told Entertainment Weekly  in a recent interview that his character Loy Cannon is, “Tony Soprano-esque” and is “the best part I’ve ever done and, honestly, probably the best part I’ll ever have.”

Add in Timothy Olyphant, Uzo Aduba, Ben Whishaw, Jessie Buckley and Jason Schwartzman among an ensemble cast to get fans yearning for more.

Here’s hoping season 4 will be finished and able to air later this year. In the meantime, while you are staying at home, you can stream the first 3 seasons of Fargo on Hulu and other streaming platforms.
