Fantasy Football: Breaking down the NFC North and who you should trust in 2020
By Bill Pivetz
QB: Kirk Cousins
RBs: Dalvin Cook, Alex Mattison
WRs: Adam Thielen, Tajae Sharpe, Alex Hollins
TEs: Kyle Rudolph, Irv Smith
The Vikings offense looked good last season. Cousins limited the turnovers with 26 touchdowns and just six interceptions. However, the loss of Stefon Diggs may hurt his production this season as there’s one less reliable pass catcher on the team.
Cook had an amazing season despite missing two games. On 250 attempts, he rushed for 1,135 yards and 13 yards. As they want to limit Cousins’ pass attempts, Cook will continue to be one of the few three-down backs in the league. That makes Mattison a valuable handcuff for any Cook owner.
Thielen was banged up last season, playing in just 10 games. Now, without Diggs, he should easily get back to 100 targets and 1,000 yards. As far as the other receivers, Sharpe may end up being the breakout star as he could end up starting opposite of Thielen.
I like Rudolph, but he’s seen a big drop in yards over the last four seasons. The player I’d be looking at is the backup tight end. Smith caught 36 passes for 311 yards and two touchdowns last season. He could outsnap Rudolph this season.
Outside of Thielen, Cook, the two tight ends and maybe Sharpe, I would not want to draft anyone from this team. They are a run-first offense with a game-manager quarterback.
The NFC North features two complete teams and two run-first teams. There are two quarterbacks I wouldn’t mind having on my team. The offensive weapons are a plenty and can put up big numbers. The next division is the NFC East.
