Throughout the past year, the 2020 NHL Entry Draft has almost always been discussed in conjunction with the name of the player who is expected to be selected first overall: Alexis Lafrenière.
An elite playmaker, Lafrenière is a complete forward. He boasts a fast game and has demonstrated a high degree of poise against both tough and older competition. Equally impressive is his willingness to use his body, as Lafrenière’s physical presence has not gone unnoticed within hockey’s top circles.
A hard worker on and off the ice, Lafrenière recently told NHL.com that his body of work indeed renders him worthy of first overall selection.
“I tried to do my best to play as good as I could in every game I was in,” Lafrenière remarked, “and for sure there’s some really good players around the world, so you never know who’s going to go No. 1… But I tried my best to play as good as I could.”
Whatever the case, you can bet that this year’s draft will continue to be explored in relation to Lafrenière going forward.
