ACC football odds: Clemson huge favorite; Miami, North Carolina lead Coastal
By John Buhler
The latest ACC football odds have Clemson as overwhelming favorites, but Miami and UNC make things interesting in the Coastal Division.
For the last five years, the ACC has belonged to the Clemson Tigers on the football field. This comes as no surprise, as Clemson has been the reigning dynasty in college football for the last half-decade. Clemson has been essentially an SEC team that happens to play an ACC schedule. The Tigers have rarely lost on the field over these last several years.
As a shock to absolutely no one, Clemson opens up as the overwhelming favorite to win the ACC yet again, according to SportsBetting.ag. Clemson comes in at a staggering -600 to six-peat in the ACC. Will the Tigers be getting any serious challenger out of their Power 5 conference this year?
Out of the ACC Atlantic, that would be a resounding, no. The only team out of Clemson’s division with better than +2000 odds to win the ACC is the Florida State Seminoles, who will begin their rebuilding process under new head coach Mike Norvell.
However, the Tigers might get a worthy challenger out of the ACC Coastal in Charlotte this year.
Four teams out of the Coastal have +2000 or better odds at this point of the offseason. Manny Diaz‘s Miami Hurricanes come in at +750. Having a graduate transfer quarterback in D’Eriq King might have something to do with this, as maybe he’s now the second-best signal-caller in the ACC behind only Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence.
Mack Brown‘s North Carolina Tar Heels come in at +1000. North Carolina gave Clemson its closest scare last season up in Chapel Hill. It’s amazing how Brown was able to turn UNC football around so fast. He didn’t even have a full recruiting cycle to work with last year!
Justin Fuente‘s Virginia Tech Hokies come in at +1200 with their rival in Bronco Mendenhall’s Virginia Cavaliers coming in at a respectable +2000 all things considered. Here are the rest of the ACC title odds for the 2020 NCAA season.
2020 ACC football odds: Can anybody approach Clemson?
- Clemson -600
- Miami +750
- North Carolina +1000
- Virginia Tech +1200
- Florida State +1600
- Virginia +2000
- Louisville +2800
- Pittsburgh +2800
- Wake Forest +4000
- North Carolina State +5000
- Duke +6600
- Syracuse +6600
- Boston College +8000
- Georgia Tech +25000
Below the +2000 threshold, two teams pop out as halfway decent value. People really like the job Scott Satterfield is doing with the Louisville Cardinals. Though they play in the same ACC Atlantic as Clemson, +2800 isn’t an outrageous number for them to begin with.
Even with the worst odds in the ACC, Geoff Collins’ Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets could shock the world at +25000. Okay, no, they won’t, but what if they’re a dark horse contender in the Coastal this year. Factor in that they play Clemson annually as cross-divisional rivals and you never know. The Ramblin’ Wreck could push for bowl eligibility this year.
Ultimately, Clemson is the safest bet here. Lawrence and running back Travis Etienne will have to massively regress for this team to be anything short of an 11-1 (7-1) team next fall. Even if they are at -600 to win the ACC, it’s almost a given at this point. No team has dominated its conference throughout the College Football Playoff era quite like Clemson has under Dabo Swinney.
