Detroit Lions

The Lions are the ideal draft-day trade candidate for Ngakoue. Detroit has the third pick in the draft but could be set to hold an auction if enough teams are interested in moving up for a quarterback.

Quarterback may not be in Jacksonville’s immediate plans. The Jaguars appear to be hoping Gardner Minshew mania will last a full season in 2020, however, there are several top-tier defensive prospects they could have their eye on with a trade up as they look to rebuild that side of the ball.

Detroit still has a need on the edge despite giving Trey Flowers a five-year, $90 million contract last offseason. Flowers’ seven sacks in 2019 were a mediocre initial return on the Lions’ investment.

The Lions would likely be looking for a bounty of picks in exchange for No. 3, but a package including Jacksonville’s ninth-overall selection and Ngakoue would be difficult to turn down.

Ngakoue’s contract demands could be met by a Lions team with over $30 million in cap space and desperate to avoid a third successive losing season under Matt Patricia. If Ngakoue is not traded by the time draft night rolls around, a seismic trade between Detroit and Jacksonville could be on the cards.
