Wondering when the Academy of Country Music Awards will be airing on CBS? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!
The global coronavirus crisis has affected many aspects of the entertainment industry, one of which being awards shows. The latest to postpone their prestigious event in response to the pandemic is that of the Academy of Country Music Awards. The 55th ceremony was scheduled to broadcast the affair live from the infamous MGM Grand Arena in the city of Las Vegas, April 5 on CBS but will now be pushed to a later date.
Keith Urban was all set to host the Academy of Country Music Awards as well as perform along with several other great musical acts poised to take the stage in one of the music genre’s biggest nights. Powerhouses like Miranda Lambert, Lindsay Ell, Caylee Hammack, Elle King, Ashley McBryde, and Tenille Townes planned to rock the house, but that will have to wait.
The event has been rescheduled to air in September, with the exact time and venue still to be determined. Damon Whiteside, CEO of the Academy of Country Music, had this to say on the matter:
"The ACM Awards is a tentpole event for our country music industry, and the Academy of Country Music and Dick Clark Productions went to great lengths to find a safe solution for the show to go on so that we can honor our artist community. This decision involved many partners, stakeholders and the industry who we have been in constant conversations with over the past several days as the situation has developed. We look forward to identifying a future date that we can celebrate with our country community safely."
In lieu of that, CBS will be airing ACM Presents: Our Country, a gathering of country music stars to rock out from their homes. The event is set to include musicians like Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw and even Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. The show, that was pulled off in just a matter of weeks, is set to air at 8 p.m. ET Sunday on CBS.
The Academy of Country Music Awards is just another in a slew of cancellations or postponements that have taken the industry by storm. Significant events like Coachella, SXSW, and E3 and more have had to grind things to a halt in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. While this is very disappointing for most fans, it is good to know these organizations are taking the appropriate actions to keep everyone safe.
