The Jets limped to an ugly final record of 7-9 in 2019. Can Sam Darnold get this team in contention for a playoff berth in 2020?

No one really expects the Jets to contend for an AFC East crown in 2020. To make any move towards playoff contention the team will need a lot of players to enjoy breakout campaigns. That means Jets fans need to count on a lot of bold, positive predictions to come through for the franchise.

Unfortunately, the roster talent just doesn’t seem to be in place for a big move up the standings. It’s conceivable that the Jets could improve on last year’s win total, but anything more than 8-8 seems like a complete and utter pipe dream. It’s going to be another long year for Jets fans.

The roster isn’t entirely devoid of talent though. A few young players could enjoy breakout campaigns in 2020. It won’t change the team’s status as AFC East doormats, but it might brighten the long-term outlook significantly. Without delay, here are five bold predictions for the Jets’ upcoming season.

5. The Jets won’t improve their win total

Winning four games again would be considered a failure in New York. That’s just what is going to happen to Adam Gase and his coaching staff. There’s actually a decent chance this team will go 3-13 or worse in 2020.

The talent just isn’t there. The offensive line might be a little better than it was in 2019, but it’s still a major weakness. Robby Anderson may not have been worth his price tag in free agency, but he was still the team’s most dangerous wide receiver. Signing Breshaud Perriman is a slight downgrade.

That means Sam Darnold and this offense will be even worse in 2020. That’s a clear recipe for constructing one of the worst teams in the NFL. The Jets are going to give Larry David even more material to work with after this disastrous season.
