The hits just keep on coming for Brad Marchand, as NHL 20’s recent update features an absolute top-notch chirp at the Boston Bruins’ forward.

With sports on hiatus for the foreseeable future as the world remains halted thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, the general populous has turned to video games to kill time. Hockey fans have been religiously playing NHL 20 — the newest iteration of the franchise from EA Sports — during this time, with teams even getting in on the action simulating games that would have happened had the league not went on pause.

On Friday, EA dropped a general update for NHL 20 to fix bugs and make some tweaks to the game. Though it’s not a major update, the patch notes for Update 1.6.0 feature quite the chirp to Boston Bruins’ forward Brad Marchand from the EA team.

First spotted on Reddit, the latest update for NHL 20 features a seemingly innocuous fix to a gameplay bug worded in the most savage way.

"Fixed a case where players other than Marchand would lose the puck at the start of a penalty shot."

That is, of course, in reference to Marchand’s shootout attempt that failed spectacularly against the Philadelphia Flyers in January where he over-skated and whiffed on the puck, leading directly to a Bruins’ loss.

That is an incredibly savage burn from the EA team. While Marchand’s flubbed shootout attempt feels like forever ago, it’s hard to forget such a wild and hilarious turn of events for one of the NHL’s most controversial players.

Marchand has been taking quite the beating over the last week or so, even without hockey games being played. Just last week, the NHL Players’ Association released their annual player’s poll, which sees the league’s players voice their opinions on a variety of topics. In this year’s player poll, Marchand was voted both the NHL’s best and worst trash-talker, an honor only he can wear.

So thank you, EA, for giving us another moment to dunk on Marchand this week.
