Ranking the best home-field advantages in college football, including Alabama, Ohio State and Penn State who have some of the loudest stadiums in the nation.

Having a great home-field advantage can literally be the difference in a win or a loss, winning your conference or not, making the College Football Playoff or not. Having 100,000 fans screaming and yelling and making the stadium a difficult and intimidating place to play for the opposition is how great teams like Ohio State, Penn State and Alabama get the advantage on the opponent before the ball is even kicked to begin the game.

It’s talked about almost too much in college football about how being the home team can turn the tides of a close game in an instant. Having tough road wins is one of the most important factors in the committee choosing the top four teams in the country at season’s end. This only stems from how difficult it is to win in front of filled to the brim football stadiums with fans all rooting for you to fail.

While some clearly do it better than others it ‘s hard to pick the best of the best. There are eight schools boasting stadium capacities of more than 100,000 fans. It would be easy to just go down the list of those teams and declare them the best, but it goes deeper than that.

Some fans are just better than others, creating an atmosphere around the stadiums is enjoyable to be in, and tough for the opposing team to win in, no matter how many fans are in the stands. In other cases, however, the sheer amount of people in a stadium can take teams over the top.

The most important factor in trying to decipher which teams have the best home-field advantage however, is how well that team does in the friendly confines of home.
