Third Round

123. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. Defensive End. Michigan. Josh Uche. 82

This is the third straight pick that the Cowboys will spend on defense, but Josh Uche makes a ton of sense at no. 82. Dallas hasn’t yet found a replacement for Robert Quinn, who departed in free agency for a five-year, $70 million deal with the Chicago Bears.

Uche is a bit undersized for an edge rusher, which could impact his ability to play on every down, but the Cowboys don’t need that right now. The Cowboys have a few players like Randy Gregory and Aldon Smith who could see starting reps, allowing Uche to develop as a pass-rushing specialist.

Playing with those guys, as well as star defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, could allow Uche to have more success getting to the quarterback. Uche does have some solid pass-rushing moves, particularly going inside the tackle, that could allow him to rack up the sacks.

Getting depth on defense, particularly in areas of need, makes all the sense in the world for a Dallas team that is stacked offensively. Receiver is also a consideration here, but the Cowboys can afford to wait for another round given the sheer volume of quality pass-catchers in this class.
