Minnesota Vikings full 2020 NFL mock draft
3rd round
The trade of Stefon Diggs leaves a substantial void for the Vikings, but a deep wide receiver class allows them to wait to address that need.
Jefferson did not put up big numbers at Florida, with season-highs of 49 catches (twice). Last year’s 657 yards was his career-high, and he had a best of six touchdowns in each of his final two seasons.
Jefferson, the son of long-time NFL wide receiver Shawn Jefferson, draws good marks for his overall polish and variance as a route runner as well as his strength at the catch point. He played all three wide receiver spots in Gainesville, but he may function best out of the slot at the next level.
Jefferson had surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his right foot, an injury that was found at the NFL Draft Combine. He is still being tabbed as a second-round pick in at least one fairly recent mock draft, but the inability for teams to have him in for a visit and a medical evaluation makes a drop possible. On the idea of taking the “best wide receiver available,” the Vikings do it here in the third round.
Jackson started his college career at Rutgers, then transferred to Ohio State for his final season. He started at left guard for the Big Ten champs, earning first-team All-Conference and third-team AP All-American honors. He started 11 games at right guard for Rutgers in 2018, and played all three interior line spots during his college run.
The Vikings need reinforcements at guard , with Pat Elflein struggling over the last couple years and Josh Kline cut after one season at right guard last year. It will be hard to address that need much earlier than this, and Jackson’s versatility gives him the edge here.
