Los Angeles Rams full 2020 NFL mock draft
The Rams don’t have a fifth-round pick right now.
Round 6
Bassey was a three-year starter at Wake Forest, with at least 60 total tackles and double-digit pass breakups in all three seasons.
Bassey tested well at the NFL Combine, including a 4.46 40-yard dash and a 39.5-inch vertical. But a lack of size (5-foot-9, 191 pounds) hurts him, both in perception as a prospect and the transition to the next level.
The Rams lost Nickell Robey-Coleman in free agency, and overall they need better cornerback depth behind Jalen Ramsey. Bassey should find a path to a roster spot immediately, and significant defensive snaps as a rookie would not be out of the question.
Round 7
Rivers college journey too him from Georgia to East Mississippi Community College (of Last Chance U fame) to Mississippi State, where he redshirted in 2017 after being deemed academically ineligible. Over two seasons for the Bulldogs, with one as a starter, his production was modest (7.5 total sacks, 67 total tackles), but he did show some disruption ability with 15 combined tackles for loss.
Somehow, with free agent deals technically pending for Leonard Floyd and A’Shawn Robinson, the Rams have to replace 19.5 sacks from last year delivered by Dante Fowler (11.5) and Clay Matthews (eight). Addressing the need for an edge rusher could come far earlier than this, but there were opportunities elsewhere that couldn’t be turned down. So a flier on Rivers becomes their final pick.
