5 teams that should make an offer for Odell Beckham Jr.
1. Minnesota Vikings
Speculation that Stefon Diggs wanted out resurfaced this spring, and the Vikings accommodated him with a trade to the Buffalo Bills for multiple draft picks. Adam Thielen is the new No. 1 wide receiver, with free agent signing Tajae Sharpe and Bisi Johnson behind him.
The Vikings simply don’t have the cap space ($12.267 million) to take on Beckham’s $14-plus million for 2020. But the Browns were rumored to have interest in franchise-tagged safety Anthony Harris near the start of the new league year, and if Minnesota were to trade him (to Cleveland or elsewhere) they would remove $11.4 million from their cap sheet for this year.
If the report from Malusis is any indicator, the Vikings would keep the extra first-round pick they got from Buffalo for Diggs in a deal for Beckham. The late-round pick they’d cede in the trade would come next year.
Among the teams that could make an offer for Beckham, the Vikings are in a pretty unique position. They have a player the Browns apparently want in Harris, and he also fills a clear need for them.
The finances only work for Minnesota if they can offload Harris, or greatly reduce his cap hit for this year via a sudden multi-year deal. But there’s an easy path to getting Beckham if the Browns will take Harris, if Spielman can get head coach Mike Zimmer on board with the idea.
