The Cowboys are hoping a head coaching change can lead them to a Super Bowl in 2020. Can Mike McCarthy lead Dallas to the promised land?

An 8-8 finish to the 2019 campaign cost head coach Jason Garett his job with the Cowboys. Now it’s up to Mike McCarthy to get this team to play up to its full potential. There’s no reason Dallas shouldn’t be able to muster a deep playoff run with the roster talent they possess.

Dak Prescott’s contract status may be up in the air but his control of the Cowboys offense is not. He may not be quite as dynamic as some of his peers around the league, but he triggers the Dallas attack with precision. Of course, the production Ezekiel Elliott gives him at the running back position makes Prescott’s job much easier.

There are more concerns on the defensive side of the ball. The Cowboys brought in Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe to fix the interior of the line. In theory, that will help Demarcus Lawrence get back to his productive self on the edge. The other defensive end spot it up in the air after the departure of Robert Quinn.

The strength of the unit is in the linebacking corps. Both Jaylon Smith and Leighton van der Esch have All-Pro potential. They need to be great to prop up the team’s questionable secondary.

Add it all up and the Cowboys should be back in the postseason this year. The outcome of the following five predictions will determine just how far they can advance.

5. Dak Prescott will get $40 million per season

Jerry Jones will not allow Prescott to start the 2020 regular season without a long-term contract extension. The Cowboys are, however, going to pay dearly for waiting this long to get a deal done. In the end, Prescott is going to become the highest paid quarterback in the NFL with an annual salary of over $40 million.
