2020 NFL Draft first-rounders to put on your fantasy football radar
By Nick Villano
3. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Chiefs
There was only one running back taken in the first round and he was taken with the last pick in the round. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is not even close to our favorite running back prospect in the draft, but he is the only one available, and we’re always looking for the next running back prospect on a deal.
Despite the fact that he’s not our favorite, it doesn’t mean he won’t be valuable. He is going on the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense, that’s looking like an all-timer. Obviously, it all starts with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, but it goes on to Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Travis Kelce, Demarcus Robinson and Mecole Hardman catching balls. Adding Edwards-Helaire only gives them another weapon.
The real question they have to answer is whether there are enough opportunities to go around. Well, the good news is there will be plenty of touchdown opportunities. That’s all we really care about in fantasy anyway. Last year, the Chiefs running backs averaged one touchdown for every 100 yards rushing.
Edwards-Helaire reminds Andy Reid of Brian Westbrook, who was once one of the best fantasy running backs in the NFL. We don’t see that kind of production coming out of the former LSU product, but he’s going to get the opportunities.
