Unbelievably, Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm were not drafted in the first three rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft. How is this even possible?

Friday night was not a good night for former Georgia Bulldogs quarterbacks.

At one time, Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm were teammates at the University of Georgia back in 2017. Eason was the starter entering his true sophomore season before losing his job to true freshman Fromm due to injury. Eason opted to transfer back home to join Chris Petersen’s Washington Huskies. Both were surely going to be top draft picks in 2020.

Well, that was absolutely not the case. Fromm regressed in year three at Georgia, falling from top-10 draft status to now a day-three selection. We haven’t seen a quarterback’s stock plummet this badly since Matt Barkley opted to return for his senior season at USC. Fromm can still have success in the NFL, but his path will begin like Kirk Cousins‘ and Dak Prescott‘s were before him.

Even stranger is Eason’s fall from grace. The Lake Stevens, Washington native committed to Georgia to be the next Matthew Stafford in Athens. He was as much of a five-star recruit as they come. However, his accuracy never manifested and he became essentially Pac-12 Joe Flacco during his one year as the Huskies starter. He would have been a No. 1 overall pick five years ago.

So what do these respective nosedives out of the top 100 tell us? These two former college stars got horrendous advice about leaving school early. Eason could have returned to Seattle for his redshirt senior season. Maybe he could have led the Huskies to a Pac-12 Championship and their second College Football Playoff berth?

Fromm had his shot of going 4-0 vs. the Florida Gators in Jacksonville. Georgia would have been the favorite to win the SEC East for the fourth year in a row. With a win over presumably the Alabama Crimson Tide in an early December rematch in Atlanta, Fromm would have made his second career trip to the College Football Playoff? He could have won the Heisman Trophy.

Instead, Eason and Fromm will wait to hear their names called in day three of the 2020 NFL Draft. It’s so embarrassing and we collectively feel terrible for the guys. Eason was surely going in the top 45 and Fromm somewhere in the 60s. Hopefully, they use this day two shade a fuel to burn the fire inside of them.

Let’s hope they end up in a situation where they can succeed as pros.
