5 teams that really nailed the 2020 NFL Draft
Denver Broncos
After his impressive performances down the stretch in 2019, the Broncos are giving Drew Lock every chance to prove he deserves to be the long-term starter at quarterback by surrounding the second-year passer with weapons.
Following up the selection of Jerry Jeudy at 15th-overall by picking K.J. Hamler in the second round gives Lock an enviable supporting cast. The addition of Jeudy, the consensus top route-runner in the class, puts the Broncos in an excellent position at boundary receiver with Courtland Sutton coming off a breakout year.
Hamler offers Denver a home-run hitter that can open things up for DaeSean Hamilton underneath. Teams will also have to account for 2019 first-round tight end Noah Fant, whose monstrous athletic ability showed up during the Broncos’ second-half surge, and another dynamic weapon at the tight end position after Denver drafted Albert Okwuegbunam in the fourth round.
Lloyd Cushenberry fortifies the interior of the offensive line, which has been much-maligned in recent years, and brings center-guard versatility to a group that lost Connor McGovern in free agency.
The secondary now has a similarly versatile presence following the selection of Iowa’s Michael Ojemuida, who boasts an intriguing blend of size and speed. McTelvin Agim bolsters the defensive line as a high-upside developmental 3-technique.
There was little reason not to expect Denver’s defense to continue to excel in 2020 but, after an excellent draft by Elway and the front office, the offense has no excuse not to deliver.
