Kansas City Chiefs 2020 NFL Draft grades: Mahomes gets a weapon
The Kansas City Chiefs began their 2020 NFL Draft by selecting Clyde Edwards-Helaire. How did they fare in their overall draft grade?
The defending Super Bowl champions had the luxury of taking the best player on their board, and they did so in nabbing Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The former LSU star ran for 1,414 yards on 6.6 yards per carry last season, scoring 16 rushing touchdowns. In the passing game, Edwards-Helaire accounted for 55 receptions, 435 yards and a score.
It’s easy to see why the Chiefs fell in love with Edwards-Helaire. Kansas City head coach Andy Reid loves matchups and utilizing quick players in space. The diminutive back has some of the best feet in the draft and runs exceptional routes. Look for him to be getting plenty of isolations against linebackers when swinging out of the backfield, and even lined up in various receiver spots.
Kansas City could have taken a cornerback here such as Kristian Fulton, but decided to make an offense led by Patrick Mahomes even more potent. Tough to argue.
