2. What Jordan was really saying after “The Shot”

Let’s go back to Game 5 of Chicago’s first-round playoff series against the Cavaliers again for a minute. In a back-and-forth affair, the Bulls trailed by one point with three seconds left. What happened next was one of the most iconic moments of Jordan’s career that let the world know something special was happening in the Windy City:

Everyone remembers “The Shot.” They remember Jordan’s jab step to break free from two defenders, the way he hung in the air over Craig Ehlo before letting that jumper fly, how the ball rattled in between the rim and dropped, Jordan’s elated, jumping fist pump, and the standing fist pumps that followed as the broadcaster yells, “BULLS WIN! THEY WIN IT!”

But nobody really remembers what Jordan was hollering that moment of triumph: “Go home, motherf**kers, go home!” Michael Wilbon recalls.

Remember, almost everyone — including the beat writers back in Chicago — were picking the 3-seeded Cavs to win that series against the 6-seeded, underdog Bulls. So when he hit that legendary shot to take Game 5 and the series, MJ made sure to let everyone know.

“Get the f**k outta here, go fu**kin’ anywhere, but you outta here,” Jordan expands with a wry smile. “Whoever’s not with us, all you f**kers go to hell.”
