LeBron James unveiled the Space Jam 2 logo on social media. The movie is slated to release the summer of 2021.

LeBron James posted a video of the logo to Space Jam 2. James will star in the long-awaited sequel to Space Jam. The original film starred Michael Jordan in the Looney Tunes world. The 1996 hit movie will have a sequel nearly 25 years after it released in theaters. James took to social media to unveil the logo on Thursday.

The logo reveals the film will be titled Space Jam: A New Legacy.

James will once again be in the shadows of Jordan. While the original 1996 flick was a hit, only time will tell if LeBron’s version will live up to expectations. The sequel is expected to hit theaters on July 16, 2021.

In March, James revealed work being done on the film now is mostly animation. As the film, much like the original, will include both live-action and animated elements as the setting crosses over with the NBA and Looney Tunes world.

“During this time right now, I wish we could release it right now, man, and give people some things to watch in their households,” James said, according to Rolling Out. “But we got until next year, next summer. We’re excited about it.”

Thus far, IMDb links Academy Award Best Actor nominee Don Cheadle and actress Sonequa Martin-Green to the project. In addition to James, there is speculation other NBA stars will join him. In the original Space Jam, Jordan was supported by Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Muggsy Bogues, Larry Johnson, Patrick Ewing and others.

It would only make sense to keep things under wraps to shock fans as it gets closer to the time. The original was a hit loaded with a strong supporting cast around Jordan that included well-known actors such as Bill Murray, in addition to athlete cameos.

As time slips into the future, it will be interesting to see who else from the NBA will join James on this journey.
