2021 NFL Draft: 5 teams that are perfect fits for Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence
By John Buhler
The best combination of excitement and it actually coming to fruition would be the Carolina Panthers. Lawrence grew up in the Southeast in suburban Atlanta and plays his college ball in Clemson, South Carolina. A good sector of Clemson Family are Panthers fans already and Carolina will be picking towards the top of the NFL Draft again next year.
The Panthers might have given a multi-year contract to Teddy Bridgewater, but we’ve seen how the first year of rebuilding projects go under Matt Rhule, as in not great. Surely, Carolina will win more than two games next year, but anything above six would be pushing it. Six wins get Carolina in the zone to be picking once again in the top 10. Give up the farm and get your next superstar.
What makes this fit interesting besides having a need and a collegiate fanbase already baked in here is this. Drew Brees and Tom Brady are in their 40s. Matt Ryan is entering his mid-30s. Though all three quarterbacks will eventually earn Canton enshrinement, the NFC South could belong to the Panthers in the 2020s if they end up with Lawrence as their next quarterback.
Moving off Cam Newton has definitely fractured part of the Panthers fanbase. Newton was arguably the greatest player in franchise history. He took Carolina to the Super Bowl, won NFL MVP and provided nine years worth of unforgettable memories for many Carolinians. What if Carolina drafts another Georgia boy No. 1? History has a weird, weird way of repeating itself.
