Can the New York Jets compete for the division this season?  Time to pick every game for the Jets in 2020 and see if they have enough for a playoff spot.

Under Adam Gase, the New York Jets went 7-9. Those seven wins were the highest regular season win total since 2015.

Injuries hammered the Jets in 2019, which prevented the team from full potential. Sam Darnold missed time, C.J. Mosley played two games, and Avery Williamson was out the entire season.

This year has to be different for the Jets. But what are honest expectations? Can they really make the playoffs?

5. The Jets’ defense will lead to wins

Last season, Gregg Williams had the defense playing strongly. Without Mosley and Williamson, Williams worked with what he had.

Williams didn’t have a No. 1 edge rusher, and the cornerback options were either under-preforming or inexperienced. Still, that didn’t prevent him from making things happen on defense.

Against the pass, the team wasn’t too good. However, they were one of the best defenses in the NFL when it came to stopping the run. They allowed the second-fewest rushing yards (1,391 yards) against.

In 2020, Williams will have much more to work with. Mosley, one of the best linebackers in football, will be back. Barring a release or trade, Williamson will be alongside Mosley, which would round out a great linebacker duo.

With other signings like Pierre Desir at corner, this defense will be a force in 2020. Jamal Adams will look to build off his All-Pro season, and Quinnen Williams needs to rebound from his shaky rookie year.

Williams will have a very talented defense, which will lead to wins in 2020.
