2. Another losing campaign

As mentioned earlier, the Jets went 7-9 last season. Realistically, they could have been 8-8 or even 9-7. The schedule will be more of a challenge this year, so a 6-10, 5-11 record is likely.

At home, the Jets might win three or four games. On the road, the team might win two or three contests.

The Jets do visit Los Angeles twice to play the Chargers and Rams. Those are two swing games that can become wins if the team executes.

Venturing up to New England is also big and visiting teams should be more confident winning in that building without Tom Brady. Leaving the possibility of a couple more wins.

The Jets have pieces, but the offense needs work. The keys to a successful Jet season in 2020 are the defense playing to an elite level, Darnold making a jump, and being a more disciplined football team. That’s asking a lot.

There will be no parade down the Canyon of Heroes in Manhattan. But in the grand scheme of this roster overhaul under General Manager Joe Douglas, further building a roster and developing your quarterback would be moral wins. Something to confidently build off for 2021.

Of course, anything can happen. Injuries could hit the team again and plummet the season. Or, Darnold takes off and the Jets find a way to win big games against tough opponents and sneak into the playoffs.

There is a lot of give and take on both sides here, but 6-10 seems to be the safest and most realistic outcome for 2020.
