2. San Francisco 49ers

Despite some level of dalliance with Tom Brady this offseason, Jimmy Garoppolo likely isn’t going anywhere anytime soon as the 49ers’ franchise quarterback. His injury early in the 2018 season turned a promising team into a 4-12 squad very quickly too. Not that he was the primary reason, but the fact is San Francisco went 13-3 and reached the Super Bowl with “Jimmy G” fully healthy last season.

Behind Garoppolo is Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard. Mullens wound up starting eight games when Garoppolo was out in 2018, and his performance (64 percent completion rate, 90.8 passer rating, 284.6 yards per game, 8.3 yards per attempt) was further proof of Kyle Shanahan’s status as one of the best offensive play designers in the NFL.

Looking to 2021, or even this year if the possibility presents itself at any point, Trubisky would at least be an experience upgrade behind Garoppolo for San Francisco. If Shanahan can make Mullens, an undrafted free agent, look like a competent quarterback he can surely do the same with Trubisky if he were pressed into action.
