The New England Patriots are entering a bold new world without Tom Brady, and the nation should get plenty of chances to see the franchise’s new era in the 2020 schedule.

For the past 20 years, the Patriots have been one of the NFL’s marquee franchises on the strength of a dynasty led by Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. Things will be different in New England this year after Brady decided to move on, taking his talents to Tampa Bay and leaving the Patriots in need of a new quarterback.

As of right now, Belichick appears committed to going with Jarrett Stidham at quarterback, which is a massive downgrade under center. The Patriots will now have to fight harder to defend the AFC East title, which should add some new intrigue to a division race that has been rather boring for the past decade.

One challenge that New England will face is that they will draw a first-place schedule, ensuring matchups with the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans. The AFC East is also set to face off with the AFC and NFC West in 2020, which means New England will be racking up a lot of frequent flier miles with several trips to the West Coast.

The Patriots should also have their fair share of national games, with matchups against the Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and Kansas City Chiefs holding significant appeal. Divisional games against the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and Miami Dolphins will also be much more interesting since the talent gap between the Patriots and them has significantly decreased.
