NFL schedule 2020: Biggest game for all 32 teams
Houston Texans: at Kansas City Chiefs
There may not be a more strange offseason in the NFL than the one that the Houston Texans are having. Head coach Bill O’Brien seems to have limitless power, earning a promotion to GM despite overseeing one of the worst collapses in playoff history against the Kansas City Chiefs.
That power has clearly gone to O’Brien’s head as he has made a series of strange transactions this offseason, headlined by dealing DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for David Johnson, a second-round pick, and a swap of fourth rounders. That deal has made the Texans significantly worse and has resulted in star quarterback Deshaun Watson leaving a series of cryptic tweets about his future.
In spite of all the chaos Houston has won its division four times in the past six years, but the Texans have yet to advance past the Divisional Round. Last season was especially egregious after Houston coughed up a 24-0 second-quarter lead to lose to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
That kind of collapse can stick with a team for a while so it is imperative for the Texans to excise those demons as soon as possible. Fortunately for O’Brien, the schedule does provide that opportunity this year with the Texans scheduled to play at Kansas City again.
There is no doubt that Houston has to find a way to win this game against the Chiefs to try and erase some of the damage that playoff loss caused. The contest could also be an important measuring stick for the Texans to see how they stack up against the defending champs.
