The Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs will start their title defense at home against the Houston Texans, according to a Chicago radio host

The NFL schedule will officially be released on Thursday night, and we may already have some insight in to what the slate may look like.

The Super Bowl Champions have traditionally opened the following NFL season on Thursday Night Football at home, to raise the banner and complete other championship celebrations.

According the radio host Danny Parkins, of 670 The Score in Chicago, that game will feature the Houston Texans traveling to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the champs:

The game is likely to feature two of the games best young quarterbacks in Super Bowl LIV MVP Patrick Mahomes and Texans’ star Deshaun Watson. The pair went 10th and 12th overall, respectively, in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The duel is likely to occur many times over the course of their careers and fostering that rivalry with the season opener is a great business decision for the National Football League.

The matchup is also the most scintillating of all the Chiefs home games in 2020, as they play their three biggest games on the road against the Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Given the way their last meeting ended, Houston head coach Bill O’Brien may already be on the phone trying to trade out of the spot.

The Kansas City Chiefs played the Houston Texans in the divisional round of last year’s playoffs. You may remember that Houston quickly rolled in the game to a 24-0 lead in the first quarter of that playoff game. From the second quarter on, though, it was all Chiefs – outscoring the Texans 51-7 over the game’s final three quarters to close out the comeback victory 51-31 en route to the team’s first Super Bowl in 50 years. It was the first of three consecutive double-digit, come from behind victories for the Chiefs in their legendary playoff run.
